Pokémon Natures
Natures are very helpful, as they aid in EV
training and Contests. The process of getting the right
nature can be quite long-winded though and this will all be explained below. Refer to the table
at the bottom of the page for more information. You can use these quick links below to jump to
different sections for faster and quicker viewing! I would recommend
checking out the Table of Natures.

Introduction Back to Top
So what exactly is a nature? Well, if you go to a
Pokémon's status page, you'll get something along the lines of
"NAUGHTY (or another nature) nature." A nature provides a 10% boost in a stat
and a 10% decrease in another stat. Sometimes this increase and
decrease are in the same stat, which cancels each other out, and this
nature is called a neutral nature. Natures also help out in
Contests and Super Contests, because a Pokémon's nature specifies
which area they are best at and its flavor preference for Pokéblocks and
Poffins. (More information about Pokéblocks
and Poffins by clicking the links).
|
|
For example, let's take a Pokémon who has a Naughty
nature. It will get a 10% boost in Attack and 10% decrease in Special Defense every time it levels up.
In Contests and Super Contests, this
Naughty natured Pokémon would enjoy Spicy Pokéblocks or Poffins, also
showing that this Pokémon is best used for the Cool category in Contests
and Super Contests. So the best way to raise its Cool stat is to
feed it Spicy food.

Stat Natures Back to Top
Natures are used often in EV training, because of the
boost they give in stats when a Pokémon levels up. Say you wanted to
train a Pokémon in Speed. You would find a nature that raises the Speed of a Pokémon, such as the
Jolly nature. This Pokémon
will get 10% more stat increase in Speed than a Pokémon that doesn't
have a Speed-increasing nature.

Contest
Natures Back to Top
Natures affect the Pokéblocks and Poffins a Pokémon like, which
directly ties into contests. Let's say you want to win a Cute Contest.
It's best to win contests when you've maxed out in the area that you
want to win. So now I want to max out in the Cuteness area. All I
have to do is find a Cute nature, for example, Timid.
|
|
This Timid natured Pokémon will max out in its Cute
nature much faster than other Pokémon, especially if you feed it Pokéblocks
or Poffins that specifically raise the Cute stat.
This is very useful during contests, because you
don't have to take a long time to make many Pokéblocks and Poffins,
since the stats will max out quicker. For a table on which natures prefer
and dislike which flavors of Pokéblocks and Poffins, please click here.

Getting
Natures Back to Top
There are ways of getting a certain nature on a Pokémon, which is
particularly useful for those hard-to-catch Pokémon. One way involves
breeding, and if you are unclear on what breeding is, click
here for a guide!
|
When breeding, you have a slight chance of passing down the nature
of one of the parents to the egg. Chances can be made better by
having the female or the Ditto hold an Everstone. With this, there is
a 50% chance that the female's nature will be passed down,
which is quite an increase from before.
This makes it quite easy to get a
good-natured Pokémon. But there are only two scenarios in
which this works. They are described below.
|
|
|
|
When breeding with a Ditto and another Pokémon, the Ditto must
be holding an Everstone, and there will be a 50% chance that the
Ditto's nature will be passed down to the baby.
When breeding with a male and female Pokémon, the female must
be holding an Everstone, and there will be a 50% chance the female
Pokémon's nature will be passed down to the baby.
If this way does not work for you, there is another way to get specific natures, and that
is hunting for the actual Pokémon and catching many of them!
Hopefully, if you are lucky, you will catch the one with the right
nature. This
may take quite a while, especially for rare Pokémon, as they don't
appear often enough to catch. For legendaries, which only appear once
or twice, try soft-resetting (saving before the battle and
turning off the game if it is the wrong nature).

Below is a table of all the details included in
each nature. Natures are put in the following order, in which the
nature boosts Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed, or None of those stats. There are no natures that
boost or lower HP.
The Pokémon's
preferred and disliked flavor of Pokéblocks and Poffin and the
recommended Contest area the Pokémon should participate in are also
included.
